Sheikh Hasina sentenced to death for failing to prevent protest violence.

Bangladesh’s International Crimes Tribunal has sentenced former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to death for crimes against humanity, including failure to prevent murder during last year’s protests. Accompanying her in conviction are former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal and former Inspector General of Police Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun, the latter having received a lenient sentence after becoming a state witness. The trial has led to heightened security measures in Dhaka, with a shoot-at-sight order issued to counter escalating violence, including arson attacks linked to Hasina’s Awami League supporters. This ruling marks a significant moment in Bangladesh’s political landscape, potentially reshaping the trajectory of its governance and justice system amidst ongoing unrest.
