DRDO's AIP System to Enhance INS Khanderi by July 2026
The Indian Navy is poised to enhance its capabilities with the integration of the DRDO’s indigenous Air Independent Propulsion (AIP) system on INS Khanderi by July 2026. This advanced fuel cell-based technology will significantly extend the submarine’s submerged endurance from 23 days to 13-15 days, boosting stealth and operational flexibility in the Indian Ocean Region. Developed in collaboration with L&T and Thermax, the AIP system has undergone extensive testing and is a critical step toward India’s maritime self-reliance, positioning the nation among a select group of countries with indigenous AIP technology. Successful integration will allow INS Khanderi to undertake covert missions, marking a landmark achievement for India’s defense capabilities.
