The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has initiated a Request for Proposal (RFP) to develop high purity Silicon Carbide (SiC) source powder, crucial for the growth of SiC single crystals used in advanced defense technologies. This move underscores India’s commitment to self-reliance in critical material production, reducing dependence on international suppliers. SiC’s exceptional properties make it vital for applications in radar systems, electronic warfare, and beyond. The initiative, part of the Technology Development Fund (TDF) Scheme, offers substantial financial support to Indian industries, including MSMEs and startups, promoting innovation and collaboration for indigenous technological advancement in defense and strategic sectors.
