Navi Mumbai International Airport opens, boosting aviation capacity and connectivity.
Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA), developed by the Adani Group, officially launched commercial operations on December 25, 2025, with IndiGo flight 6E460 from Bengaluru landing at 8 am amid a ceremonial water cannon salute. Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani personally welcomed passengers, joined by Param Vir Chakra awardees Captain Bana Singh and Subedar Major Sanjay Kumar for a flag-hoisting ceremony, alongside cricketers Suryakumar Yadav, Mithali Raj, and Sunil Chhetri. Handling 48 flights and over 4,000 passengers on day one across nine domestic destinations by airlines like IndiGo, Air India Express, Akasa Air, and Star Air, NMIA eases chronic congestion at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, bolstering Mumbai Metropolitan Region’s connectivity and India’s aviation infrastructure for sustained economic momentum.
