India airlifts 197 citizens from Thailand after Myanmar cybercrime crackdown.
The Indian Air Force successfully airlifted 197 Indian nationals from Mae Sot, Thailand, who were previously employed in cyber scam centers in Myanmar. This operation follows the evacuation of 270 individuals from Myawaddy amidst a crackdown by the Myanmar military on illegal activities. Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul supervised the repatriation efforts, emphasizing collaboration between India and Thailand to combat transnational crimes such as cyber fraud and human trafficking. The Indian embassy reiterated the importance of verifying employment credentials abroad, highlighting concerns over the security and safety of Indian nationals in foreign job markets, particularly in regions with high instances of cybercrime.
