India and Sri Lanka are exploring a new ferry link between Rameshwaram in Tamil Nadu and Talaimannar, which aims to enhance maritime connectivity and bolster regional travel and trade. This initiative was discussed during India Maritime Week 2025, a significant event attracting participation from over 85 nations, emphasizing India’s growing role in international maritime affairs. Minister Sonowal highlighted the importance of the maritime sector in achieving the vision of Viksit Bharat and reaffirmed India’s aspirations to become one of the top five shipbuilding nations globally. This initiative not only aims to improve cross-border connectivity but also reflects India’s commitment to regional cooperation and sustainable economic growth, reinforcing the spirit of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, or “the world is one family.”
