UK launches digital ID scheme, drawing parallels with India's Aadhaar system.

The UK government has launched its first digital ID scheme, initially aimed at former armed services members, which resembles India’s Aadhaar system that provides comprehensive biometric and demographic data for its citizens. The UK’s digital ID will function through a smartphone app, requiring face ID or fingerprint verification, thereby enhancing security and reducing illegal employment by verifying residency status. Unlike India’s extensive Aadhaar, which processes around 80 million authentications daily, the UK’s initiative is still in its nascent stages. This development reflects a growing global trend towards digital identity solutions, underscoring the importance of secure verification methods in managing immigration and employment rights, while also drawing parallels with India’s successful digital ID implementation.
