Maoist violence reduced by 89% in 15 years, says Nityanand Rai.

Maoist violence in India has fallen sharply over the past 15 years, with Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai informing the Lok Sabha on December 16, 2025 that incidents linked to Left Wing Extremism have dropped by 89 per cent, from a peak of 1,936 incidents in 2010 to 222 in 2025. Resultant deaths of civilians and security personnel have declined by 91 per cent over the same period, from 1,005 to 95, underscoring a substantial improvement in internal security and state control in erstwhile insurgency-hit heartland regions. The government credits the 2015 National Policy and Action Plan, focused operations, and massive expansion of roads, telecom connectivity and financial inclusion in tribal and remote belts, along with attractive surrender-and-rehabilitation schemes that have encouraged thousands of Maoists to lay down arms, consolidating New Delhi’s upper hand in the long-running conflict.
