J&K Police detains doctor and wife for engaging in unlawful activities.
Jammu and Kashmir Police’s Counter Intelligence Kashmir (CIK) detained Dr. Umer Farooq Bhat, a government doctor at SMHS Hospital Srinagar, and his wife Shahzada Akhtar on November 18, 2025, for allegedly engaging in unlawful activities that included misusing their official positions and social influence to further secessionist and terrorist agendas. The couple is accused of radicalizing local women through both online and offline platforms under the guise of community engagement. Coordinated searches were conducted across four locations in Srinagar, Kulgam, and Anantnag, resulting in the seizure of multiple digital devices and incriminating materials. This detention forms part of a broader crackdown by J&K police on social media abusers supporting separatist causes, distinct from the recent white-collar terror module bust. The case highlights ongoing security challenges in Jammu and Kashmir, where groups like Dukhtaran-e-Milat — an all-women outfit linked to Hizbul Mujahideen advocating jihad for Kashmir’s secession — continue to exert radical influence, posing threats to regional stability and Indian national security. This operation underscores India’s sustained zero-tolerance policy toward terrorism and separatism in the Valley.
