Arrest made in Assam Rifles convoy ambush; arms recovered

The prime accused in the September 19 ambush on an Assam Rifles convoy in Manipur, which resulted in the deaths of two personnel, has been arrested. Khomdram Ojit Singh, identified as a member of the banned People’s Liberation Army, admitted to his involvement in the attack and led authorities to recover a cache of arms, including INSAS rifles. Following the ambush, which occurred amid ongoing ethnic tensions in Manipur, police have intensified efforts to apprehend other suspects. The incident underscores the persistent security challenges in the region, exacerbated by inter-community violence, and highlights the need for robust counterinsurgency strategies to ensure the safety of security forces and civilians alike.
