PM Modi praises INSV Kaundinya's maiden voyage, celebrating India's shipbuilding heritage.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has commended the INSV Kaundinya as it embarks on its maiden voyage from Porbandar to Muscat, Oman, showcasing India’s ancient stitched-shipbuilding technique. This vessel, named after the legendary mariner Kaundinya, symbolizes India’s historical maritime connections and craftsmanship, constructed entirely using traditional methods with wooden planks stitched together using coconut coir rope. The project, a collaboration between the Ministry of Culture and the Indian Navy, aims to revive indigenous knowledge systems and celebrates India’s shipbuilding heritage, reflecting its role as a significant maritime nation. The successful launch of INSV Kaundinya reaffirms India’s commitment to preserving its rich cultural traditions while enhancing its naval capabilities.
