NTPC to Acquire Uranium Assets for Future Nuclear Projects

NTPC Ltd, India’s largest power generator, is advancing its diversification into nuclear energy by planning to acquire overseas uranium assets to secure fuel for future projects. In collaboration with Uranium Corporation of India Limited, NTPC aims to conduct techno-commercial due diligence on these assets as it prepares to enter the nuclear sector through a joint venture with Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd. The joint venture will focus on the 2,800 MW Mahi Banswara Nuclear Power Project in Rajasthan. With a government target of 100 GW of nuclear capacity by 2047, nuclear energy is increasingly seen as a reliable, low-emission alternative to intermittent renewable sources, underscoring its strategic importance in India’s energy transition.
