India aims for top-three global semiconductor status by 2036, vital for tech and security.
India aims to secure a position among the top three semiconductor-producing nations by 2036, as emphasized by DRDO Chairman Dr. Samir V Kamat during the launch of preparations for the ESTIC-2025 conclave. Highlighting the critical role of semiconductors in national security and economic growth, Dr. Kamat detailed India’s advancements since the launch of the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM) in 2021, including indigenous development of key technologies like Silicon Carbide wafers and Gallium Nitride transistors. The upcoming conclave, themed “Imagine, Innovate, Inspire,” will foster collaboration among academia, industry, and policymakers, reflecting India’s vision for a self-reliant and technologically empowered future by 2047. This initiative underscores India’s commitment to building a robust innovation ecosystem essential for its defense and technological sovereignty.
