Retired Army officer wins disability pension after 52 years.

A retired Indian Army officer, who missed the 1971 Indo-Pak war due to a road accident, has successfully won a legal battle for his disability pension after 52 years. The Telangana High Court upheld the Armed Forces Tribunal’s decision, stating that the officer was returning from sanctioned leave when the accident occurred, thus qualifying him for the pension. Initially denied by the Army on the grounds that his injury was not incurred in the line of duty, the ruling emphasizes the importance of recognizing the sacrifices of personnel, even in situations outside direct combat, reinforcing the commitment to veterans’ rights within the Indian defense framework.
