High Court criticizes Army, Centre for denying jobs to farm workers

The Punjab and Haryana High Court criticized the Army and the Centre for failing to regularize the services of military farm workers who have served for over three decades. Despite a Central Administrative Tribunal’s 1999 order for regularization, the Centre argued that the required posts were abolished in 2018, which the court found to be inconsistent with evidence showing the posts were abolished only in 2020. The court emphasized that long-serving employees should not be denied their rights based on procedural faults and cited several Supreme Court rulings supporting regularization for those with substantial service. This ruling underscores the need for accountability and adherence to judicial orders in the defense sector.
