Geopolitics and Security Alliances

Putin's India visit aims for economic ties, not geopolitics.

Ahead of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s visit to India on December 4-5, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) clarified that discussions will focus on economic cooperation rather than geopolitical issues. Key developments include significant growth in bilateral trade, negotiations on a Free Trade Agreement with Eurasian countries, and plans to facilitate rupee-ruble settlements, bolstering sectors like pharmaceuticals and consumer goods. The MEA also addressed the situation regarding Indians in the Russian Army, ensuring the repatriation of those employed there. This summit provides a vital platform for enhancing Indian exports to Russia and deepening bilateral ties, reflecting India’s strategic commitment to strengthening its economic relations with Russia amidst a complex geopolitical landscape.
