India and China to Form Working Group for Border Trade and Management

India and China have agreed to establish a working group for enhanced border management and to reopen trade at the Lipulekh, Shipki La, and Nathu La passes, following the 24th round of Special Representatives’ talks on August 19, 2025, co-chaired by National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in New Delhi. The discussions, held during Wang’s two-day visit, also led to commitments to resume direct flights, update the Air Services Agreement, ease visa processes for tourists, businesses, and media, and promote investment flows. Both sides further decided to form an expert group under the Working Mechanism for Consultation and Coordination on India-China Border Affairs to explore early progress in boundary delimitation, establish general-level mechanisms in the eastern and middle sectors, and advance de-escalation talks to maintain peace along the Line of Actual Control, while bolstering cultural exchanges including religious pilgrimages.
