TEDBF Program on Track for CDR by Late 2026 with 80 Jets Planned

The Indian Navy’s Twin Engine Deck Based Fighter (TEDBF) program is advancing towards its Critical Design Review (CDR) completion, expected by late 2026, with a robust budget allocation of ₹13,000 crore. Designed to replace the MiG-29K, the TEDBF features a dual-variant architecture for diverse carrier operations and boasts fifth-generation avionics, including GaN-based radar. The procurement plan anticipates an initial fleet of 80 jets, with a potential expansion to 150 to enhance India’s maritime strike capabilities amidst growing regional tensions, particularly against Chinese advancements like the J-15 and Type 003 supercarriers. This initiative is crucial for bolstering India’s indigenous defense manufacturing and ensuring maritime security in the Indo-Pacific region.
