NASM-SR Set for Key Helicopter-Launched Missile Testing Trial

The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and the Indian Navy are set to conduct a dynamic trial of the Naval Anti-Ship Missile-Short Range (NASM-SR), a significant advancement in India’s indigenous defense capabilities. This test will involve a live launch from a helicopter, marking a transition from previous ground-based evaluations to real-world naval operations, with the missile designed to arm future MH-60R helicopters. The NASM-SR, a lightweight missile with a range of 55 km, has undergone successful earlier trials, and the upcoming demonstration is critical for ensuring its integration into the Indian Navy’s Multi-Role Helicopter fleet by 2027. This development underscores India’s commitment to self-reliance in defense and enhances its maritime strike capabilities amidst evolving geopolitical challenges.
