LCA Tejas Mk-2: Cost-Effective Indigenous Fighter for IAF

India’s Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas Mk-2 represents a significant advancement in indigenous fighter jet development, emphasizing cost efficiency and operational effectiveness. Building on the successes of the Tejas Mk-1A, it employs modern manufacturing techniques, modular design, and domestic components, notably the Uttam AESA radar, to minimize life-cycle costs and reduce reliance on foreign supply chains. With a production target of 200-240 units and plans for a 30 aircraft annual output by 2027, the Mk-2 is expected to rival advanced imported fighters like the Rafale and Gripen, offering competitive capabilities at a lower overall cost. This initiative not only strengthens the Indian Air Force but also reinforces India’s commitment to self-reliance in defense under the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative, significantly enhancing the domestic defense ecosystem.
