KAI Unveils Design for South Korea's Electronic Warfare Aircraft

South Korea is advancing its indigenous electronic warfare capabilities through the Block-I Electronic Warfare System Development Project, with KAI (Korea Aerospace Industries) and Hanwha Systems unveiling their design based on the Bombardier Global 6500 aircraft. This initiative, backed by a KRW 1.775 trillion ($1.3 billion) investment, aims to enhance the Republic of Korea Air Force’s (ROKAF) electronic warfare and stand-off jamming capabilities, aiming for operational readiness by 2034. The drive for self-reliance in EW technology reflects a strategic shift to reduce dependency on U.S. systems, addressing the need for a robust jamming range to safeguard the Korean Peninsula. This underscores South Korea’s commitment to bolstering its defense capabilities amid regional tensions.
