India Approaches $1B Deal for 113 GE-404 Engines for LCA Jets

India is nearing a $1 billion deal with General Electric for 113 GE-404 engines to power 97 additional Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Mark 1A jets, enhancing the Indian Air Force’s capabilities. This contract supports the government’s push for self-reliance in defense manufacturing under the Make in India initiative, building on a previous order of 99 engines for an initial batch of 83 jets. The deal, expected to be finalized by September 2025, underscores India’s commitment to bolstering its indigenous defense production and operational readiness, thereby replacing aging aircraft and strengthening its defense posture in a rapidly evolving geopolitical landscape.
