IAF and Army to Integrate Astra Mk1A Missiles on 87 UAVs

The Indian Air Force (IAF) and Indian Army are set to enhance their unmanned aerial capabilities by integrating the indigenous Astra Mk1A missile into 87 Medium Altitude Long Endurance (MALE) UAVs, specifically the Archer-NG. This integration will enable these UAVs to conduct intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) roles while also engaging aerial threats, significantly transforming India’s air combat strategy. Each Archer-NG UAV will be equipped with two Astra Mk1A missiles, benefiting from advanced guidance systems that allow coordination with manned aircraft and AWACS platforms. This pioneering step not only weaponizes India’s unmanned systems but also underscores the country’s commitment to bolstering its defense capabilities through indigenous innovations.
