HAL Nashik to begin Tejas MkII production in 2032-33, enhancing IAF capabilities.

Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) Chairman Dr. D.K. Sunil announced that the Nashik facility will begin manufacturing the Tejas MkII from 2032-33, following the aircraft’s full operational certification. This strategic move aims to bolster the Indian Air Force’s (IAF) capabilities amid regional threats, transitioning the facility to produce 12-18 MkII units annually. The MkII, featuring advanced technologies like the indigenous Uttam GaN AESA radar and a GE F414 engine, promises enhanced performance, addressing the IAF’s urgent needs against advanced adversaries. This expansion is crucial for India’s goal of achieving self-reliance in defense manufacturing, alleviating production pressures from other facilities and potentially attracting foreign interest in Tejas exports, thereby supporting domestic R&D initiatives.
