GTRE aims for over 90% local content in Kaveri engine for IAF.

In a significant advancement for Indian defense aviation, the Gas Turbine Research Establishment (GTRE) has announced plans to enhance the indigenization of the Kaveri Derivative Engine (KDE), aiming for over 90% local content to support the Indian Air Force’s future programs. Currently at 85% indigenization, the KDE, initially developed for the Tejas Light Combat Aircraft, is set for integration with the older Tejas variant for performance validation before transitioning to trials for the Remotely Piloted Surveillance Aircraft (RPSA). This initiative not only aims to bolster supply chain resilience through partnerships with major domestic firms but also signifies India’s commitment to reducing reliance on foreign technology, thereby strengthening national defense capabilities and fostering self-reliance in critical aerospace sectors.
