DRDO Chief: Guided Pinaka Can Now Target Enemy Warships

The DRDO Chairman, Dr. Samir V. Kamat, announced that the Guided Pinaka multi-barrel rocket system can be repurposed to target enemy warships, enhancing India’s coastal defense capabilities. Originally designed for ground warfare, the Guided Pinaka has improved accuracy and a range of 75-90 kilometers, making it a cost-effective option for engaging naval assets. This innovation supports India’s strategy of multi-domain warfare, allowing existing systems to be adapted for new roles, and complements established systems like the BrahMos missile. As concerns grow over China’s maritime expansion, the ability to deploy the Guided Pinaka at sea strengthens India’s defense posture in the Indian Ocean Region.
