Astra Microwave Products Limited (AMPL) is advancing India’s radar technology by developing a plank-based Active Antenna Array Unit (AAAU) for the Virupaksha radar, intended for the Indian Air Force’s Sukhoi Su-30MKI fleet. This innovative design simplifies production and maintenance while enhancing performance with approximately 2,400 gallium nitride (GaN)-based TRMs. The Virupaksha radar, set to replace the Russian N011M Bars, significantly upgrades the IAF’s combat capabilities, offering an extended search range and advanced tracking capabilities for multiple aerial targets. AMPL’s expertise, showcased in previous radar projects, positions it well to meet the IAF’s needs, reinforcing India’s commitment to self-reliance in defense technology.
