Modi's Ethiopia visit strengthens strategic partnership and cooperation initiatives.

During Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s historic visit to Ethiopia, the two nations elevated their bilateral relationship to a Strategic Partnership, emphasizing cooperation in areas such as digital public infrastructure, sustainable agriculture, and capacity building. Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed personally welcomed Modi at the airport and drove him to significant cultural sites, showcasing the warmth and respect that characterizes the India-Ethiopia relationship. The visit, which marks the first by an Indian Prime Minister to Ethiopia since 2011, is underscored by India’s commitment to South-South cooperation and highlights Ethiopia’s pivotal role as a diplomatic hub in Africa, hosting the African Union headquarters. Key outcomes of the visit include agreements to double scholarships for Ethiopian students in India, collaboration in renewable energy and critical minerals, and joint commitments to security and peacekeeping, further solidifying India’s role as a reliable partner in Africa’s growth story and enhancing its influence in the Global South amidst evolving geopolitical dynamics.
