Modi and Khurelsukh commit to strengthen India-Mongolia ties for Global South.

During a significant visit marking 70 years of diplomatic relations between India and Mongolia, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh underscored their commitment to strengthening bilateral ties across various sectors, including defense, energy, and cultural exchange. The leaders announced a $1.7 billion line of credit aimed at enhancing Mongolia’s energy security, alongside initiatives such as free e-visa facilities for Mongolian citizens and cultural exchanges celebrating their shared Buddhist heritage. Notably, defense cooperation was bolstered with India’s commitment to train Mongolia’s border security forces and the appointment of a Defence Attache in Ulaanbaatar. This visit is particularly meaningful as it coincides with the 10th anniversary of their strategic partnership, reinforcing mutual trust and collaboration, especially as both nations seek to amplify the voice of the Global South. The strengthened ties are emblematic of a broader geopolitical strategy for India, positioning itself as a key player in regional security and development while fostering enduring cultural and strategic relationships that extend beyond mere diplomacy.
