Tejas Mk1A's 13th Aircraft Flies with CAT-B F-404 Engine
The 13th Tejas Mk1A aircraft, designated LA5045, has successfully completed its maiden flight at Hindustan Aeronautics Limited’s (HAL) facility in Bengaluru, utilizing a Category-B (CAT-B) F-404 engine. This achievement is crucial for India’s Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) program, especially amidst delays in the delivery of the General Electric F404-IN20 engines due to supply chain issues. HAL’s strategic decision to employ CAT-B engines ensures that airframe testing remains on schedule, addressing the Indian Air Force’s urgent demand for modern fighter jets. The adaptability shown by HAL underscores the importance of maintaining production momentum as the IAF seeks to enhance its capabilities, with the full integration of the F404-IN20 engines anticipated by late 2025.
