Manipur government grants Rs 5 lakh each to families of slain Assam Rifles jawans.

The Manipur government has announced an ex gratia payment of Rs 5 lakh for the families of two Assam Rifles jawans who were tragically killed in an ambush at Nambol Sabal Leikai in Bishnupur district on September 19. Additionally, Rs 2 lakh will be provided to each of the five injured personnel. Home Commissioner N. Ashok Kumar condemned the attack, describing it as a “cowardly act,” and expressed condolences to the bereaved families while emphasizing the state’s commitment to supporting the injured in their recovery and rehabilitation. This incident underscores the ongoing security challenges faced by Indian forces in the region, highlighting the need for enhanced protection and strategic measures to ensure the safety of personnel engaging in counter-insurgency operations.
