India and Japan Collaborate on Long-Range Missile for Fighters

India and Japan are exploring a collaborative effort to develop a long-range air-to-air missile for their next-generation fighter jets, the AMCA and GCAP, in response to China’s advancing missile capabilities. This joint venture aims to produce a BVRAAM that could exceed 300 km in range, leveraging India’s DRDO expertise and Japan’s technology. Recent intelligence sharing of recovered Chinese missiles further strengthens their partnership. While challenges exist in technology transfer and budget constraints, this cooperation could significantly enhance Indo-Pacific deterrence and accelerate India’s missile program, positioning both nations strategically against China’s military advancements.
