Thirty-seven Maoists, including three leaders, surrender in Hyderabad, signaling a significant setback.
In a significant setback to the Maoist insurgency, 37 members of the banned CPI (Maoist), including three senior State Committee leaders—Koyyada Sambaiah alias Azad, Appasi Narayana alias Ramesh, and Muchaki Somada alias Erra—surrendered before Telangana DGP B Shivadhar Reddy in Hyderabad on November 22, 2025. Among them were 25 women cadres, handing over eight firearms including one AK-47 and significant ammunition. This mass surrender follows intense security operations, notably days after the killing of senior Maoist leader Madvi Hidma in Andhra Pradesh, and reflects ideological rifts and dwindling organizational strength within the Maoist ranks. The Telangana government rewarded the surrendered cadres with over Rs 1.41 crore and assured rehabilitation under its policy. With 465 Maoists surrendered this year alone, this marks a strategic victory for Telangana’s counter-insurgency efforts and signals a rapid erosion of Maoist influence in the region. Efforts continue to persuade other top leaders to surrender, accelerating the decline of the insurgency.
