Ten Maoists, including leader Chaitu, surrender in Chhattisgarh, indicating weakening insurgent influence.
In a significant development against Left Wing Extremism in Chhattisgarh, ten Maoists, including senior cadre Chaitu alias Shyam Dada, surrendered to security forces in Sukma district. Chaitu, a mastermind behind the 2013 Jhiram Valley attack, carried a reward of Rs 25 lakh, while the total reward for the surrendered group amounts to Rs 65 lakh. This surrender underscores the increasing pressure from ongoing anti-Naxal operations conducted by the District Reserve Guard, Bastar Fighters, and CRPF, as well as the growing disillusionment among Maoist ranks. The Chhattisgarh government’s rehabilitation policy aims to integrate these former insurgents into society, marking a substantial blow to Maoist influence in the region, once considered a stronghold of their activities.
