Supreme Court dismisses Amritpal Singh's NSA detention plea, advises High Court approach.

The Supreme Court of India on November 9, 2025, dismissed the plea of Amritpal Singh, Akali Dal (Waris Punjab De) MP from Khadoor Sahib, challenging his detention under the National Security Act (NSA). The apex court directed him to approach the Punjab and Haryana High Court, instructing it to decide the matter within six weeks, emphasizing the need for expeditious resolution of detention cases. Amritpal Singh, currently lodged in Assam’s Dibrugarh jail since his arrest on April 23, 2023, has had his preventive detention extended twice—April 2024 and April 2025—citing national security concerns related to his radical activities. His counsel argued the detention was politically motivated and violated fundamental rights, but the Supreme Court upheld procedural norms demanding issues be addressed by the High Court first. This judicial stance reflects India’s firm approach to internal security challenges posed by radical separatist elements while respecting legal processes
