Red Fort Blast Unveils Jaish-e-Mohammed Recruitment Network Spanning J&K
The Red Fort blast investigation has revealed a major Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) recruitment and radicalisation network extending from Jammu & Kashmir to Delhi, led by paramedic-turned-cleric Maulvi Irfan Ahmad. According to NIA officials, Ahmad used Telegram and other encrypted apps to recruit young medical students under the guise of religious study circles. The group reportedly planned to launch coordinated bombings in Delhi, using social media to spread propaganda. The Delhi Police and J&K Counter-Terror units have jointly arrested seven suspects and seized over 2,900 kg of explosive materials, including ammonium nitrate and PETN. Investigators found that JeM handlers based in Afghanistan had sanctioned funds for creating a women’s wing, which would have expanded the outfit’s urban reach. Authorities believe this module is linked to the Red Fort blast that killed 12 and injured over 30. The discovery underscores India’s persistent challenge of online radicalisation and the need for tighter cyber-monitoring mechanisms.
