Pakistan Bans Tehreek-i-Labbaik Pakistan Amid Violent Protests
Pakistan’s federal cabinet has banned the Tehreek-i-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) under anti-terrorism laws due to its violent protests and threats to public safety. The decision, unanimously endorsed by the cabinet after recommendations from the Punjab government, is rooted in the group’s history of inciting violence since its inception in 2016. Prime Minister’s Political Affairs Adviser Rana Sanaullah emphasized that the ban is aimed at curbing the TLP’s disruptive conduct rather than its religious beliefs. This marks the second time the TLP has faced a ban, reflecting Islamabad’s ongoing struggle to balance religious sensitivities with national security imperatives. The government’s actions underline the challenging environment in which Pakistan must navigate extremism while maintaining order and civil authority.
