Meghalaya Police dismantle cross-border theft ring; 10 arrested

Meghalaya Police have dismantled a significant cross-border motorcycle theft racket, arresting 17 individuals, including 10 Bangladeshis. The operation revealed that local gangs were stealing motorcycles in Shillong and smuggling them into Bangladesh for resale. The arrests followed police intercepting a suspicious scooter, leading to further investigations that identified intermediaries and additional suspects. Enhanced vigilance along the India-Bangladesh border is now being implemented to prevent future exploitation of this porous boundary. This operation underscores the need for robust border security measures to combat transnational crime effectively, reflecting India’s commitment to maintaining law and order in its border regions.
