Maoist leader with Rs 5 lakh bounty surrenders in Jharkhand.
In a major security development on November 12, 2025, two Maoist commanders, sub-zonal leader Brajesh Yadav alias Rakesh Ji with a Rs 5 lakh bounty and area commander Awdhesh Lohra alias Rohit Lohra, surrendered to Jharkhand police in Latehar district. Yadav, with 10 pending cases, hails from Gumla, while Lohra, with five cases, is from Latehar. Their surrender under the state government’s ‘Nai Disha’ rehabilitation policy highlights a significant weakening of the banned Jharkhand Jan Mukti Parishad (JJMP), which now has only a handful of members left active locally. Police and community collaboration were credited for this breakthrough, with officials urging remaining Maoists to surrender. This success underscores Jharkhand’s strategic focus on integrating former extremists and stabilizing the region, aligning with broader national counter-insurgency efforts to curb Maoist influence and restore peace. Families of the surrendering cadres are receiving benefits under the policy.
