Terrorism and Counterterrorism

Jaishankar highlights Pakistan's long-term support for terrorism in major cities.

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar emphasized India’s unique diplomatic stance towards Pakistan, attributing it to Islamabad’s longstanding and overt support for terrorism, which he described as a sustained policy rather than an episodic occurrence. He criticized Pakistan for normalizing its terrorist activities, stating that global attitudes have shifted and such justifications are increasingly rejected. Jaishankar argued that India’s foreign and security strategies must adapt to this “unpalatable reality,” asserting that India’s approach will differ fundamentally between cooperative nations and those that threaten its security, like Pakistan. This underscores the critical need for India to formulate policies based on the actions of its neighbors, particularly in the context of regional stability and security.
