Hoax active shooter report triggers lockdown at US Naval Academy

The US Naval Academy in Annapolis was placed on lockdown due to a hoax report of an active shooter, triggered by a threat from a student who had been expelled. Although the threat was found to be non-credible, chaos ensued, resulting in one midshipman injuring a law enforcement officer with a parade rifle, who then shot the midshipman in the arm. This incident highlights the vulnerabilities of military institutions to misinformation, prompting a need for robust crisis management and communication strategies to prevent such occurrences in the future. The situation was resolved with no ongoing threat, allowing operations to resume.
