Fifth Bangladeshi Arrested in Meghalaya Armed Raid Incident

Security forces on August 10, 2025, arrested a fifth Bangladeshi national involved in a violent armed raid in Meghalaya’s Rongdongai village, South West Khasi Hills district. On the night of August 7, a gang of eight to nine armed Bangladeshi men crossed into Indian territory, attacked villager Balsrang A. Marak, stabbed him, attempted to abduct him, and fired shots during their escape. Four suspects were arrested earlier, with the fifth apprehended following a coordinated hunt by the Border Security Force and Meghalaya Police. Items recovered include a Bangladeshi police ID card, handcuffs, weapons, and communication devices, raising suspicions of rogue law enforcement links. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma emphasized strict border security and zero tolerance for illegal infiltration amid rising concerns over smuggling and demographic changes in the border areas. The investigation and search for remaining suspects continue.
