Eyewitnesses identify Yasin Malik as main shooter in 1990 IAF killings.
In a significant development in the 1990 killing of four Indian Air Force (IAF) personnel in Srinagar, two key eyewitnesses have identified Yasin Malik, chief of the banned Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF), as the main shooter responsible for the attack. During testimony in a Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (Prevention) Act (TADA) court, the eyewitnesses, both IAF personnel, also named three of Malik’s associates—Showkat Ahmed, Saleem, and Javed Ahmed—as accomplices in the incident, which occurred on January 25, 1990. This case, which has seen families of the victims awaiting justice for over three decades, highlights the enduring impact of Pakistan-backed insurgency in the Kashmir Valley. Malik, currently serving a life sentence in Tihar Jail for a separate terror funding case, attended the hearing via video conferencing. The court has scheduled the next hearing for November 29, furthering the pursuit of justice for the victims’ families and reinforcing India’s commitment to addressing terrorism and its perpetrators.
