CRPF Sets Up 229 Bases Since 2019 to Eradicate Naxalism by 2026
The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) has established 229 Forward Operating Bases (FOBs) across six key states—Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, and Telangana—since 2019, as part of a strategic initiative to eradicate Left-Wing Extremism (LWE) by 2026. This year, 59 FOBs were set up, the highest annual total, significantly enhancing the security forces’ capabilities to operate in insurgency-prone areas. The deployment of these semi-permanent bases has improved intelligence gathering, response times, and coordination with local police, contributing to an 89% reduction in LWE violence since 2010. As a result, the number of affected districts has decreased dramatically, underscoring the effectiveness of the multi-pronged approach articulated in the National Policy and Action Plan on LWE, which aims to restore state authority and promote development in previously inaccessible regions.
