BSF aims to eliminate Maoist presence in Odisha by March 2026.
The Border Security Force (BSF) has pledged to eradicate Maoist influences in Odisha by March 2026, focusing on technology-driven operations in collaboration with state police and central forces. BSF IG Shiv Aadhar Shrivastava highlighted the transformation of previously Maoist-dominated areas into safer regions, with operations resulting in the neutralization of 86 Maoists, 710 arrests, and the surrender of over 2,500 individuals. While significant progress has been made, challenges persist, particularly in dense forest areas plagued by Maoist activity and narcotics trafficking. The BSF’s holistic approach emphasizes not only military action but also civic engagement and economic incentives to encourage Maoists to reintegrate into society.
