Sheikh Hasina sentenced to death for inciting violence in Bangladesh.

Sheikh Hasina, former Prime Minister of Bangladesh, has been sentenced to death by a Dhaka tribunal for crimes against humanity, including inciting violence against protesting students during the July Uprising of 2024. The ruling, which also convicted her former Home Minister, Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, is based on findings that state forces under Hasina’s orders employed lethal tactics against demonstrators, resulting in approximately 1,400 deaths. Now living in exile in India, both Hasina and Kamal face extradition requests from the interim Bangladeshi government. This verdict marks a significant turning point in Bangladesh’s political landscape, potentially straining India-Bangladesh relations and raising concerns about regional stability amid ongoing domestic unrest.
