Officer Claims Pressure to Frame RSS Chief in Malegaon Case

A former officer of the Maharashtra Anti-Terror Squad, Mehboob Mujawar, claimed there were attempts to frame RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat in the 2008 Malegaon blasts investigation, asserting he faced pressure to misdirect the probe. The special court acquitted seven accused, including BJP leader Pragya Singh Thakur, citing insufficient evidence. This has reignited debates about the alleged politicization of terrorism cases, with Maharashtra Chief Minister Fadnavis asserting the previous government’s narrative of “Hindu terrorism” aimed to divert from Islamic extremism. The court acknowledged a bomb blast occurred but found no proof linking the accused to the crime, reflecting the need for impartial investigations in sensitive cases.
