The LAP criticized the State Government for not facilitating an Airports Authority of India takeover, despite interest from the Union Government. Opponents, including political parties and civil society groups, warn that military needs could compromise passenger safety and the airport’s civilian character, potentially impacting regional connectivity and economic growth. The matter has been discussed with Union Home Minister Amit Shah, yet no follow-up actions have occurred.
