Goa CM grants Indian citizenship to Pakistan-born Brenden Crasto
A Pakistan-born man, Brenden Valentine Crasto, received Indian citizenship from Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, marking a significant moment as he becomes the third person in Goa to gain nationality under the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA). Crasto, who has lived in India since 2006 and married an Indian national, fulfills all legal requirements for citizenship as outlined in the CAA. This legislation, passed in 2019, aims to provide Indian nationality to specific religious communities from neighboring countries, reflecting India’s commitment to humanitarian principles. The successful application process underscores the government’s dedication to implementing the CAA effectively, despite previous delays.
