Shangumugham Beach in Thiruvananthapuram is set to undergo significant renovations ahead of the Navy Day celebrations on December 4, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi slated to be the chief guest. The State government has approved a ₹14 crore plan for emergency works aimed at enhancing the beach’s aesthetics and protection, following a proposal from the Irrigation Department. Navy Day commemorates Operation Trident, a historic naval assault during the 1971 Indo-Pak War, and is marked by an operational demonstration highlighting the Indian Navy’s capabilities. This celebration marks only the third time Navy Day will be observed outside a major naval station, reflecting the Indian Navy’s growing prominence in national pride and maritime heritage.
